Places to Visit near Kullu & Manali

Manali To Rohtang (Route -1)

Snow clad peaks, peaceful environs, amazing flora and fauna, beautiful apple orchards, audacious activities, chilled out cafes, bars and lots and lots of shopping- that’s what Manali is all about.

The lovely hill station is perched on the northern edge of the Kullu Valley - just 40 kms away from Kullu, at an altitude of 2050 meters approx, and makes a wonderful holiday destination ideal for a family vacation, a honeymoon or on your own. The mighty River Beas hurtling through Manali adds a dramatic tone and you can spend hours watching the river rush by at meets the eyes.

Nehru Kund-

A small spring of cold mountain water named after late Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and 6 Kms from Manali.

Kothi-

A quite but picturesque spot at the foot of Rohtang pass and 15 Kms from Manali.

Gulaba Camp-

A place known for flowers and its natural beauty, a must stay for every tourist.

Rahala fall-

27 Kms from Manali, located at the base of the Rohtang pass. It’s a small natural fall.

Marhi-

It’s the last stop before rohtang pass. An ideal place to relax and eat. 24hrs drinks and snacks can be availed at this place.

Rani Nala-

46Kms from Manali. Its a glacier point , snow available throughout the year.

Rohtang Pass-

It is 51 Kms from Manali, located at an altitude of 4,111meters (13,500ft). It connected the valley of Kullu Manali to Lahoul and Spitti. Apart from the splendid beauty of the natures creations there is also a small lake called Dashor. The pass remains open from June to October or until the snow fall. Journey to Rohtang is strictly a subject to weather conditions

Manali to Manikaran(Route-2)

Vaishno Temple-

a small carve and shrine with an image of goddess Vaishno Devi, temples for lord Shive and Rama are also located in the surrounding. This is located on the way from Manali to Manikaran.

Angora Rabbit Farm -

8Kms from Kullu, a place to check out all bre eds of angora rabbits, angora shawls can be purchased from here at factory rates.

Shamshi Industrial Area -

Hand woven shawls, caps, carpets, jackets and other accessories can be pur chased from here at reasonable prices.

Kasol Valley -

Located on an op[en space with slopes down to a broad expanse of clear white sand at the edge of the river Parvati.

Manikaran -

A very popular sit e among sikhs and Hindus. This place is known for its hot water springs, Gurudwara sahib and Ram Mandir. L egend has it that Parvati the wife of lord Shiva found her lost earrings here. Apart from the holy places there is a local market and a lot of places to party and, stay and dine

Manali Local Tour (Route-3)(within 5kms manali’s radius )

Hadimba Temple -

Built in 1553 AD. With a four tiered pagoda shaped roof and a front doorway, superbly crafted and carved with figund symbols. The temple is dedicated to Hadimba Devi. This temple is located amidst lush green and thick whispering forest of Dhungri. Its just 2 Kms from Manali.

Tibetan Monasteries -

There are two Tibetan monasteries in Manali , both located within the town. A must visit if you want to have a taste of Buddhist culture.

Manu Temple old Manali -

Hand Manu Temple Manu Temple is located in old Manali, at a distance of three kilometers from the main market.

Van Vihar -

A casual walk in the jungle is what this place is meant for. its located just next to the main Manali market. Tourist can enjoy jungle walk, paddle boating, and fun park for children.

Club House -

Its HP tourism undertaki ng club meant for cultural activities and conferences . You may visit the place to check out the local culture and purchase locally crafted handicrafts. Also in house are all sorts of indoor games.

Recreation Activities

Rafting

White Water river -

rafting facilities are offered by private operators at Pirdi near Kullu where a water sports centre has been set up to provide one stop water sports adventure solutions for the tourist. Rafting on stretches of the River Beas, where rapids of high grades can be negotiated, provides an exhilarating interlude fro enthu siasts. kayaking is possible at Pandoh Dam on the way to Mandi.

White water rafting in Kullu valley is done on river Beas from Pirdi (4 kms ahead of Kullu town) down to Jhiri, a stretch of approximately 14 kms. (Period Apr 15th-Jun end). The journey takes nearly one & half hour consisting of rapids from grade II & III.

Rafting begins at around 10 o' clock in the morning at Pirdi. Pirdi is 45 kms from Manali and hence, recommended starting time from Manali is 8 o'clock. This activity will require one full day.

Manali Paragliding

Manali Paragliding -

Paragliding is organized in Kullu valley throughout the year at Solang Valley, located 14 kms from Manali and other locations like Marhi, Fatru, Bijli Mahadev etc. There are generally two kind of flights:

1. Short flights : The client is taken 100 - 150 mts up the slope and takes a flight along with the pilot in the two seater paraglider. The flight lasts for approximately 60 - 90 seconds.

2. High flying : Approximately 20-30 minutes flight and arranged at Fatru, Kothi and Bijli Mahadev. Mainly for experienced pilots who have done short flights.

Skiing in Manali

Rohtang Pass and Solang Nallah offer a variety of slopes for skiers.

Some easy runs are provided for beginners who can take a course or just hire an instructor for a short while from the directorate of Mountaineering and Allied sports or a one of the other agencies registered with department of Tourism. Sking facilities are available throughout the year at Rohtang. Expert skiers can enjoy heli skiing during the winter months for which they may contact the department of Tourism.

Mountaineering in Manali

Mountaineering-

Institute in Manali is located 3 kms. from down-town on the Left Bank of River Beas. It provides training facilities for basic and advance climbing both for Indian nationals and foreigners Mountaineering Institute in Manali organizes basic & advance training courses in, trekking, mountaineering, skiing and water sports. Skiing and trekking equipments can be hired from Mountaineering Institute by booking in advance. Tourists can visit an interesting showroom of Mountaineering Institute. This institute also conducts other adventurous sports activities like high altitude trekking, minor mountaineering, rockclimbing, skiing, and high altitude rescue and relief courses. The institute has sufficient lodging and boarding arrangements and equipment can be hired for trekking purposes.

Manali Camping

The Beas river has its source in Rohtang pass where Beas Kund Camp is a popular camping destination.

Raison, and Shoja also have a beautifull camp sites for the experienced and high altitude campers the glacier of ladakhi Manali is an irresistible attraction. For inexperienced the Solang valley, Kothi and Manali camp offers luxury camping amidst the Apple Orchids.

This apart there are various camping grounds accessible from Manali including the Malana, Pulga, Kheer Gangain in Kullu also. Equipments, training, safety precautions as well as experienced educators and guides are also available in Manali with different Tour operators.
